Horseshoe Stakes
We offer 1" diameter stakes in both A36 hot-rolled steel and 1018 cold-rolled steel to give you a choice between a value priced stake and premium quality stakes. While there are slight differences in the mechanical properties of the two materials, the main, noticeable difference is the hot-rolled stakes have a black mill scale finish and the cold-rolled stakes have a clean, smooth finish that is a little better suited to painting. And while the mill scale on hot-rolled stakes can be removed for a smoother finish using an angle grinder with a wire brush wheel, it's somewhat time consuming and more trouble. Cold-rolled steel is also about 25% more costly than hot-rolled steel. We will no longer be offering 3/4" stakes. They never sold well and they aren't regulation size. What we've found is that most folks who are going to put in the time an effort on a horsehoe pit project want regulation sized equiupment to show for their efforts when they're done with it. 1" stakes are much sturdier and more enjoyable to pitch on anyway.

All of our stakes have clean cut ends with a slight chamfer to bevel and smooth the sharp edge from the saw. Attention to detail is evident in everything we do at Knight Mfg.

We sell our stakes as part of kits that include your choice of mounting brackets and two stakes, either hot-rolled or cold-rolled, your choice. We no longer sell stakes individually, because if you're not going to use our mounting brackets to install them, and you're going to use some other method such as putting them in a bucket of concrete, then you're going to need longer stakes than 24". Which we don't offer. And there are probably 100 places online where you can buy 30" or 36" horseshoe stakes if you're going to go a different route that requires longer stakes. When you're using our mounting brackets to mount these to a pressure treated 6 x 6 as intended, a 24" stake is the perfect length. Using longer stakes just means wasting the extra material that gets buried underground and having to dig a deeper trench to bury them.
Our stakes measure 24" in length and are intended to be used in conjunction with our stake mounting brackets.
Stake painting service. We can paint your stakes white with red tops for $12.00. We can paint both the hot-rolled and the cold-rolled stakes, but the cold rolled stakes will render a smoother finish, if that's really important to you.
Our stakes are sold as part of our stake / mounting bracket combo kits.
